IN THIS LESSON

Lesson 3: Developing Strength, Sound

and Early Musical Skills

In Lesson 3, students begin to develop more control, consistency, and musical awareness. After reinforcing earlier skills,

we introduce slightly more challenging exercises appropriate for each student’s level.

What We Do in Lesson 3

1. Warm-Up & Review

We begin with:

  • A short technical warm-up

  • Review of the previous song/exercise

  • Quick posture and hand-position check

  • Rhythm practice or clapping games

This ensures good habits continue to build.

2. Technique Expansion

Violin

  • Bowing with different rhythms

  • Practicing finger placement (1–2–3 on the A or E string)

  • Beginning to connect bow strokes smoothly

  • Introduction to simple scales (A major, D major for beginners)

 Voice

  • Breath support exercises

  • Vowel shaping

  • Pitch-matching with more accuracy

  • First harmonies or echo-singing

  • Learning a short, slightly longer melody

Cello

  • Bow weight and bow direction control

  • Strengthening first position finger patterns

  • Combining open strings + fingered notes

  • Introduction to simple scales (C major or G major)

Flute

  • Long tones with steady air

  • Playing simple scales (B–A–G or C–B–A–G)

  • Finger coordination drills

  • Simple reading exercises

Guitar

  • Smooth chord changes

  • First “easy song” pattern with strumming

  • Single-string melodies

  • Introduction to simple picking patterns

Piano

  • Both hands playing together

  • Basic scales (C major, G major)

  • Reading short songs

  • Simple left-hand patterns (blocked chords or single bass notes)

Music Theory

  • Reading line and space notes confidently

  • Understanding meter (4/4, 3/4)

  • Writing simple rhythms

  • Identifying notes on their instrument

3. Second Song or Extended Piece

Lesson 3 includes introducing a new song or extending the first one.
This piece helps strengthen:

  • Timing

  • Coordination

  • Expression

  • Reading skills

4. Musical Listening & Expression

We begin to explore:

  • Dynamics (loud vs soft)

  • Tempo (fast vs slow)

  • Tone quality

Students start learning how to make music expressive—not just correct.

5. Parent Check-In

We explain:

  • What skills improved

  • What technique still needs reinforcement

  • What the new song is

  • How to practice it effectively at home

By the End of Lesson 3

Students will:
✔️ Play or sing with more control
✔️ Understand simple scales
✔️ Learn a new song or extended piece
✔️ Begin expressing musical ideas
✔️ Show clear progress from their first lesson
